Vocal Coach Reacts To Black Sabbath - War Pigs - Live In Paris - Ken Tamplin

The English rock band Black Sabbath are recognized by most as the pioneers of heavy metal music and helped to define the genre.

Formally named Earth, the band’s new name came from a movie theater across the street from the band’s rehearsal space which was showing the 1963 horror film Black Sabbath.

In the beginning the band was not well received by critics as they didn’t know what to make of their music. However their first album was a commercial success and reached number 8 in the UK Albums Chart.

Over time their popularity continued to grow and even critics were starting to respond favorably.

In 1979, Ozzy was dismissed from the band due to his regular use of alcohol and other drugs. He was replaced by former Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio.

Dio had actually been recommended by band manager Don Arden’s daughter, Sharon Arden, who later became Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife.

The band had multiple line-up changes, with Iommi being the only constant member throughout its history.

The band has been ranked by MTV as the "Greatest Metal Band" of all time, and placed second in VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" list. Rolling Stone magazine ranked them number 85 in their "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" and they have sold over 70 million records worldwide.
