What Makes This Singer Great? Ozzy Osbourne
When discussing great singers, in the world of metal there are few as iconic as Ozzy Osbourne.
Ozzy has always marched to his own beat, from his personal style to his unique vocals, there is no one quite like him.
Of the over 15 tattoos Ozzy has, his first tattoo is the most famous with the letters O-Z-Z-Y across the knuckles of his left hand. He created the tattoo by himself as a teenager with a sewing needle and grate polish. He also tattooed smiley faces on his knees and has said they helped to cheer him up.
Ozzy didn't just play a tough guy on stage. At his home in Buckinghamshire, England, Ozzy wrestled naked with a robber who had intruded into their home. Unfortunately, the robber got away with some expensive jewelry, including Sharon's wedding ring which was later recovered by their daughter with the help of the British TV show 'Crime Watch.'
Ozzy has created plenty of memorable moments offstage including the time he urinated on the Alamo memorial cenotaph which resulted in him being banned from the city of San Antonio for a decade. A wax statue was created in 2001 by artists Ruben Ortiz-Torres and Jim Mendiola that commemorates the historic moment and it has a motion sensor that makes the statue pee when people approach it.
