Today Kati Cher is taking on Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' “I Hate Myself For Loving You”.
Following her time with the Runaways, Joan Jett formed the band Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.
The band actually struggled early on, touring throughout the US and slowly building a fan base but they were barely able to keep afloat financially. Jett actually had to use her personal savings to make copies of the Joan Jett album and sold them out of the back of a Cadillac at the end of each concert.
Things turned around for the band after a concert at the Palladium in New York City in 1981. It was described by music journalists as a career-defining performance by Jett and it helped solidify a strong New York following for the band.
They went on to become the first rock band to perform a series of shows at the Lunt–Fontanne Theatre on Broadway, breaking the record at the time for the fastest ticket sell-out.
