What Makes This Singer Great? Sammy Hagar
A lot of things come to mind when looking at what makes Sammy Hagar great; his high range belting, his songwriting, his business acumen, and of course his ability to fill the shoes of David Lee Roth.
Sammy got his start playing in bands at the ripe age of 14 when he fronted his first band the Fabulous Castilles.
A few years later he joined the band Montrose alongside guitarist Ronnie Montrose and it was there that he experienced his first commercial success.
After two years, he ended up leaving the band to pursue a solo career and in the early 80s after signing to Geffen Records, he released his biggest selling album to date: Standing Hampton, which went on to reach platinum status.
In 1985, he was approached by Van Halen after they had just let go of David Lee Roth and he was quickly hired as the new frontman to the band.
Iāll be breaking down what specifically Sammy brought to the band during the āVan Hagarā era as I share in more detail what I thought made him unique.
Iād love to hear what you all think of when discussing Sammy so please be sure to share in the comments!
