When learning a new language (in this case English), it is important to understand some very fundamental things about the language.
In this video, I discuss first the correct way to sing vowels in English, and how they relate to words.
I also showcase various other languages and how they relate to English and how to overcome dialect issues.
I have worked with many students like Gabriela Gunčíková. Gabby is from the Czech Republic. When she first started KTVA she could hardly speak or understand a word in English.

Many other students ranging from Germany, Sweden, France, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Africa, China, and so on.
Once an understanding of what make that language different, and then a focus on about 6 major vowel sounds is established, then it's just a matter of knowing how to listen for it.
