"I am an illustrator based in the small Northern town of Waipu, New Zealand and I create work that combines hand drawn, painted and digital mediums. It was a joy to work alongside my Wellington-based friend Chris Callus who brought my illustrations to life through animation. I really enjoyed playing with the darker tones of “Punchline” to create a world that I hope is both visually interesting and emotionally engaging. Having enjoyed Ed’s music for such a long time, I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to create a video for his music in my own style (even writing this does not feel real) and the project has been an absolute dream come true." - Evan Heasman

This video was a collaborative effort from two ends of New Zealand’s North Island, with Evan (aka sojushots) illustrating from the town of Waipu and Chris animating from Wellington. Evan combined a range of hand drawing, inking and painting techniques to craft hundreds of illustration pieces. These were scanned and meticulously combined digitally to create a variety of creatures and scenes, from the somber interiors of a Fox’s woodland home, to enchanting forests and glowing underwater landscapes. The illustrations were then passed over to Chris who brought them to life through character animation, camera movement and digital effects.
