Choosing A Vocal Coach - What's The Difference? - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy

In a world with so much noise, a world where anyone can raise their hand and claim to be a vocal coach, how can you tell the difference?

I'd like for you to think about something for a moment:

Do The Math!

Would you go to a piano teacher who couldn't play songs, whole songs, well to teach you how to play piano?

Would you go to a guitar teacher who just "mouthed" the parts but couldn't actually play? (and yet they are going to teach you?)

If you liked baseball (or any sport for that matter), would you go to a coach that couldn't demonstrate how to get you where you want to be? Now I have heard it said, "There are a lot of coaches in the world of sports that don't perform in this way."

BALONEY!

High end professional coaches don't "grow" talent. They "manage" existing, developed talent. Talent that is already trained and at their prime. But it's the TRAINERS that helped the players get there in the first place. Those "great" coaches are great at coaching people who have already arrived at the top of their game.

I could go on and on about this but would you go to learn from a heart surgeon who couldn't actually perform heart surgery? They just talked about it? How then can you possibly learn?

Or any kind of artisan for that matter. House builder, stone cutter, astronaut, I don't care… you name it…

Then why in the world would you trust your VOICE to a hack? One with no records out, no touring, nothing… who has no proof or history of his or her ability?

It seems in the work of vocal coaching, somehow this is acceptable.

Well I am telling you, in my 35 plus years of doing this, good vocal info that actually works onstage is very hard to come by, and if not done correctly, could easily cost you your voice!

In this video, I discuss how to find a quality vocal coach, and what to look for.
