What Makes This Singer Great? Tom Petty
Tom Petty was sort of like the quintessential example of the ultimate singer/songwriter and his cool vocal tone made his music particularly unique.
Petty has inspired countless musicians with his memorable lyrics and simple, accessible music.
Tom first rose to prominence in 1976 when his band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, released their debut album which included the singles "American Girl" and "Breakdown".
The follow-up album was an even bigger success becoming the band's first top 40 album and their third release went on to sell over 2 million copies and was certified platinum.
Petty also enjoyed a solo career, in addition to his time as part of George Harrison's band: Traveling Wilburys.
During his lengthy career, Petty sold more than 80 millions making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
I'm going to take a look at a live performance of "Free Fallin'" as I break down what stood out about Tom for me. I'd love to also hear what you thought made him great, so please be sure to share in the comments!
