What Makes This Singer Great? Sam Cooke

Steve Perry has called Sam Cooke his biggest vocal influence of all time and today we'll explore what was so great about Sam's music.

Sam's vocals had a big, round, velvety sound and were impossible not to recognize as he pulled them off with effortless ease.

Known also for his phenomenal pitch, Sam's vowel placement was perfect and his tone was just killer.

At a time when there were no gadgets or auto-tune, singers like Sam had to be both great live and able to do it night after night.

As I show you a couple of Sam's performances, I'll share more about what I thought was so special about Sam. I'd love to hear what you think too so please let me know in the comments what you thought made him great!
