What Makes This Singer Great? Phil Collins

When Phil Collins took over the reigns of Genesis after Peter Gabriel left it was no small transition as he moved from behind the drums, to the front of the stage.

The transition was seamless though and led by Collins' passionate singing and gritty vocals, their first album with Collins as frontman was a huge success, both commercially and critically.

Phil's influence helped turn the band's music into a more radio friendly, pop-rock sound, which helped to expand their fan base in the US.

With his great phrasing, unique melodies, and spot on pitch, Phil has gone on to release 8 studio albums and sell over 100 million records worldwide.

I'll be breaking down what I think made Phil great, as I dive into a live performance of his. I'd love to get your input as well so please be sure to share what you stood out about him for you!
