What Makes This Singer Great? Al Green

The Reverend Al Green was known for his smooth, sexy vocals and legendary tone and in today's video I'll take a deeper look at what made him great.

Growing up Al loved listening to Elvis Presley and when he was in high school he started a vocal group called Al Greene & The Creations.

The group would later record a song called "Back Up Train" which became a hit and went on to peak at number 46 on the Cash Box Top 100.

Al would later be signed by record producer Willie Mitchell and before releasing his first album, he removed the "e" from the end of his last name.

His second album contained the hit "Tired Of Being Alone" which went on to sell over a million copies and was certified gold.

Today I'll be taking a look at a live performance of Al singing "Let's Stay Together" as I share what stood out to me about his music. I'd love to hear what you thought made him great too so please let me know in the comments!
