Katy Perry is a complete entertainer.
Her performances have some of the most elaborate stage sets I’ve seen along with some pretty impressive wardrobes not to be outdone by her catchy tunes.
Katy Perry was actually born Katheryn Hudson and changed her name later in life to avoid being confused with the actor Kate Hudson.
She actually got her start in gospel music. After singing in church through her childhood she was discovered by Nashville producers when singing in her church choir at the age of 15.
After heading to Nashville to develop her song-writing skills and learn guitar, she was signed to a label and released her first studio album at 17.
When her record label dissolved she moved to Los Angeles and ventured into secular music. She was signed and dropped by both Island Def Jam and Columbia Records before signing with Capitol Records in 2007.
A year later, she released her second album which catapulted her to fame. Her third album Teenage Dream was also a huge success and had five No. 1 singles, which is tied with Michael Jackson’s “Bad.”for the most ever on an album.
Katy has gone on to become one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 18 million albums and 125 million singles globally throughout her career.
In addition to her successful singing career she has acted and been a judge on American Idol since 2018.
