As we started writing the music for the August entry in my year-long “Yearbook Album” project, the idea of “back to school” quickly turned into the story of a girl (to whom I think we can all relate to varying degrees) imagining what the upcoming year will be like - the anxiety, awkwardness, but also the hope and resilience that’s part of growing up and finding our identities. As someone who experienced bullying in school, I wanted to convey both the pain it causes and the strength it takes to face.
I knew immediately upon finishing that for the video I wanted to tell the story through dance, and was lucky enough to get the incredible Lauren Yakima and Kayla Kalbfleisch on board to bring the vision to life - these two are so fantastically talented, and shooting this video with Casey Breves was an absolute dream. I hope you enjoy the story this video tells, and go follow Lauren and Kayla to see more!
