There’s always a personal touch to Kiana Ledé’s R&B. The titles of her three projects, and the subject matter within, are rooted in how she perceives herself. 2018’s ‘Selfless’ EP chewed on the pros and cons of giving up her identity in relationships. She chose to name her first full-length ‘KIKI,” a nickname. With her latest project, ‘Grudges,’ the “EX” singer questions the spiritual, mental, and emotional cost of holding onto resentment. This sophomore album, which arrived in June, was originally supposed to be called ‘Closure.’ Ultimately, Lede found that misleading. “Centering the whole album around all the sh-t that I was trying to shed is just way more authentic,” she wisely explained. She’s definitely not trying to shed her famously sharp sensuality with “Deeper.” Its sexual double entendres are barely metaphorical. When she sheds her jacket, the heat piques. Good thing we have sprinklers in the studio, ‘cuz we had more to film. Keep your eyes out for another performance coming soon.
