Not often does the Vevo studio play host to eight musicians, but Gregory Porter packed the house to capacity, and the result speaks for itself. The Sacramento-bred jazz man is a contemporary classic who uses a warm baritone to weave his spell. Brimming with soul, Porter’s voice is a powerhouse instrument - the tool he has used to woo audiences on huge festival stages and in intimate clubs around the world. Jazz fans, in step with the jazz press, consider him the best male improvising vocalist at work these days, and Grammy voters agree; Porter’s earned himself a couple of the prestigious awards. A deft blend of R&B, gospel and jazz has sent him to the top in the last 10 years - even EDM mega duo Disclosure came calling for his help on their 2015 track “Holding On.” In his Vevo performance, Porter and squad fine-tuned all the nuances of “Revival,” an uplifting hymnal with a dash of pop appeal. They wanted every inflection to count, and you can hear it in the music. The song is part of his ‘All Rise’ album for Blue Note, which is slated to drop in August.
