As he had during all eight of his May 1979 concerts in the U.S.S.R, Elton opened his final Moscow performance with his most famous composition, ‘Your Song’. The first Western rock act of his stature to play in the communist country, Elton explained, “It’s all very well playing America and Europe, and playing places that you know and are well-acquainted with, but we wanted to try and come somewhere where not many [Western acts] have come before.”
