Cautious - The Tide Is My Witness (Live). An exclusive performance for Vevo.

Cautious Clay describes his upcoming 'KARPEH' album an an attempt to equate his personal journey with his own family’s “past life experiences." That’s an ambitious undertaking, yet the dude born Joshua Karpeh is well-equipped for the job. His duo of EPs - 2018’s ‘Blood Type’ and 2019’s ‘Table of Context’ - established the multi-instrumentalist as an equally dexterous lyricist. On “Cold War,” the Brooklyn indie staple's highest streaming song to date, he details stalled relationship communication as a result of Tinder’s inherent shallowness, yet his ruminations are anything but shallow. “Welcome to the days of the broke and shallow” is one of many Cautious Clay lines that would make an English Lit major sweat. T-Swift even sampled the track for “London Boy.” Popular alt-pop producer Dan Nigro joined the mix for Clay’s 2021 debut album ‘Deadpan Love.’ It spanned indie guitar, brooding R&B, and experimental electronic music all while keeping his sharp tongue at the forefront with track titles like “Why Is Your Clay So Cautious” and “Artificial Irrelevence.” In gearing up for the new album, Clay is clearly pushing forward. He’s still rippin’ saxophone, a skill that soars on “The Tide Is My Witness,” but it’s on top of more intricate polyrhythms, more unexpected chord progressions. He even showed off some sweet flute skills in this funky bounce through “Ohio,” one for the Midwest kids with big dreams.
